Covenant and Faith
Our society is maintained by promises. For example, a bill is just a piece of paper, but because of a promise made among people it has monetary value with which they can buy or sell things. If a child tears up a money bill and throws it away, people will get upset, but if it is a simple piece of paper, they will not care too much about it. That is because it does not have a promise attached to it, while a money bill does. So, a promise is important.
There is a promise, or a covenant, between God and humankind as well.
If we do not understand the relationship between a covenant and faith in our life of faith, we cannot understand why we should obey God’s commandments and keep our faith in Elohim, and then our faith will be vague and shaken to its roots.
The goal of our faith is the salvation of our souls (1 Pe 1:9). Many people in the world claim that they are saved, and each of them suggests a different way of salvation. However, it is only God’s word of promise [covenant] that we can trust for our salvation. Now, let us take time to think about how important this covenant is which God has given us, human beings.
God’s promise directly related to salvation
There are many philosophies and ideas in the world, but we can find the way of salvation only in the Bible where God’s promises are recorded. No matter how plausible a teaching may be, if it is not recorded in the Bible, it is just a worthless teaching which has nothing to do with salvation. The reason why we reject rules taught by men, which so many churches in the world are following now, is because there is no promise God has made with us.
God’s commandments, which were observed by Jesus Himself as an example for us to follow and preached by the apostles, have God’s promise to lead those who follow them to salvation. That is why we are walking the path of faith in accordance with the words of the Bible.
Gal 1:6-10 . . . which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! . . .
The gospel is a promise God has made with us. A “different gospel” is the result of breaking God’s promise. God has definitely said that those who follow and preach a different gospel can never be saved. It is a crime to make a counterfeit bill and use it. Likewise, changing or perverting the gospel of God is an act of spiritual sin.
A bill has a promise made by society. There are certain letters on some parts of a bill, specific pictures and numbers on other parts of it, and it also has a special pattern (hologram) which even blind people can identify by touch. All these conditions are required for a bill to be used as money.
In the same way, God has established certain conditions in the Bible for our salvation: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy,” “Through the ceremony of eating bread and drinking wine on the evening of the Passover—the fourteenth day of the first month, I promise to give you eternal life,” and much more. God has let these promises be written in the Bible, so that those who are spiritually blind can seek God and reach out for Him.
Rev 22:18-19 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
God commands us not to add to or subtract from the words of all 66 books of the Bible. If a part of the picture on a bill is deleted or something is added to the picture, it is a counterfeit bill which has no value as money.
God tells us not to use anything counterfeit, but to use this covenant made between Him and us.
If counterfeit money is rampant, public order will break down. God already knew that a different gospel, a counterfeit gospel made by Satan, would be rampant in this world, and commanded us not to add to or subtract from the words of the Bible. It is because if we follow God’s word, we can be saved, but if we add to or subtract from the word of God, we cannot go to the eternal kingdom of heaven.
When we examine through the Bible every command that we are keeping, we can know whether or not we are now living the life of faith in accordance with God’s promise, and we can also be assured of our salvation.
So many people like the sand by the sea say that they are saved, but there is a need to check to see if they are really following the teachings of the Bible and also a need to find out what promises God has given in the Bible.
The Passover is a covenant of God
In this regard, let us first examine the Passover which we are keeping.
The Passover is the new covenant established by God Himself.
Jn 6:53-55 Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.”
Jesus says that those who do not eat His flesh and drink His blood have no life in them. No matter how outstanding or eminent a man may be, if he has no life, it is all meaningless.
God has promised to give us life when we eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood. This is a precious promise God has made with us, His people. God never breaks this promise.
Now, let us find out what Jesus has referred to as His flesh and blood.
Mt 26:17-28 . . . So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover . . . While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Jesus has promised that the Passover bread is His flesh and the Passover wine His blood. Unless we eat Jesus’ flesh and drink His blood, we have no life. This means that without keeping the Passover we cannot enter eternal life which God has promised us.
Since God, our Savior, has given us this promise, we must eat and drink the bread and wine of the Passover, represented as the flesh and blood of Jesus. Following the teachings of God is the way to eternal life and salvation and that is true faith.
God has given us the New Covenant Passover that brings us life, and through this covenant He has allowed us to go to the eternal kingdom of God.
Jer 31:31-34 “The time is coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.” . . . “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people . . . For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
The new covenant established by God has God’s amazing, boundless grace and blessings. God has also clearly proven through the Bible that He will forgive the sins of those who are in the new covenant. This is why the Passover of the new covenant is so precious.
The Sabbath is a covenant of God
If we want to be saved, we need to examine ourselves to see if we are now following God’s words of promise which God has given us through the Bible. The Sabbath we are now keeping is also a covenant of God.
Eze 20:11-21 “ ‘I gave them my decrees and made known to them my laws, for the man who obeys them will live by them. Also I gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between us, so they would know that I the LORD made them holy. Yet the people of Israel rebelled against me in the desert. They did not follow my decrees but rejected my laws—although the man who obeys them will live by them—and they utterly desecrated my Sabbaths. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and destroy them in the desert . . . Keep my Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between us. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God . . . But the children rebelled against me: They did not follow my decrees, they were not careful to keep my laws—although the man who obeys them will live by them—and they desecrated my Sabbaths . . .’ ”
God has promised that the Sabbath is a sign between Him and His people. Nevertheless, some people insist that the Sabbath doesn’t need to be kept or that it can be observed on any day. What will become of those people? God has said that He will tie those lawless people, who break God’s promise, in bundles and throw them into the furnace of fire to be burned at the last day. By this God means that He will ultimately throw them into the eternal fire of hell (Mt 13:30, 40-42).
To the people of Zion who keep God’s laws and regulations, however, God has promised salvation. Apostle John records that the “offspring of the woman” who will be redeemed from this earth are those who faithfully obey God’s commandments (Rev 14:12; 12:17).
When we keep the Sabbath, it means that through this day we praise Elohim, the Creator of all things, and also examine our relationship with God; we keep in mind that God who created all things is our Heavenly Father and Mother.
However, the gospel which is a covenant God has made with us, began to gradually change around the end of the apostolic age, and it was completely abolished in the 4th century. The Sabbath changed to Sunday in 321, and the Passover was abolished in 325. Satan and his followers, who destroyed the truth of God, devised their own rules. In about 354, they invented Christmas and added it to God’s word, and around 568 they started to set up the cross on top of the steeple of each church. All those things are not found anywhere in the 66 books of the Bible. They excluded the things recorded in the Bible, and instead made their own rules one after another, defining those who keep God’s commandments as heretics.
Even in this age, Satan and his followers are hindering the truth of God.
They are destined to be destroyed, and that is why they speak disparagingly of God’s covenant and despise it. However, this covenant is the word of life which is absolutely necessary for God’s people who are eagerly longing for salvation.
Father and Mother have come to this earth for Their children who are wandering where there is no truth, and have restored all the truths of the new covenant. By teaching us each and every law that was lost, They have granted us complete salvation and re-established the covenant between God and us.
Let us proclaim the promise of God
Traffic lights at an intersection have a promise between people; a red light means stop, and a green light means go. What if they ignore the traffic signal system which is a promise made between people and go as they please? Such behavior threatens public order, and endangers not only themselves but other people as well.
For the order of the universe and the salvation of His children, God has asked them not to add to or subtract from the words of the Bible. The evil god who keeps trying to lead us where there is no truth is Satan the devil.
The Bible says that if anyone preaches a different gospel than the one which Christ has taught us, he or she will be eternally condemned.
We must take the words of the Bible, which lead us to life and salvation, as our standard and live in accordance with the teachings of the Bible. Faith is to accept everything God has said, getting rid of our own thoughts. If the Bible says that there is a new name, we must believe in the new name, and if the Bible testifies about the Spirit and the Bride, we must believe in the existence of the Spirit and the Bride.
Since we have met our Heavenly Father and Mother who have come to this earth, we have full assurance of our salvation. According to the teachings of the Bible, we have become God’s children who are partakers of Christ’s flesh and blood, and we enjoy the feast of the Passover and dwell in the truth of the new covenant. We give God worship on the Sabbath day, by which we have spiritual communion with God, and God accepts our worship like Abel’s sacrifice.
God tells us to preach the gospel of the new covenant to all people in the world because He has put His providence and plan of salvation in it.
There are still many people who are ignorant of God’s promise and do not stand in the will of God. We must go to them and let them know whether or not their faith has a promise which God has made to them.
No matter how large a piece of paper is, if it has no promise, it is nothing but a piece of paper. However, if it contains a promise, though thin and small, it has value as money. There is such a big difference between what has a promise and what has no promise.
Brothers and sisters in Zion! I want you all to have absolute faith in the covenant established by God Almighty, who created the heavens and the earth by His word, and to follow all the teachings of God till the end. We are secure and confident because we have received the promise of God.
God’s word is an absolute guarantee that supports our faith and assures us of our salvation. Father and Mother have given us this great realization and granted us salvation by leading us into the truth of the new covenant.
Let us give eternal thanks, glory and honor to our Heavenly Father Ahnsahnghong and our New Jerusalem Heavenly Mother!
